My work concentrates on the moment where everything changes, the chaos it causes and the transformations that are inherent in the upheaval. “Trouble in Paradise” was intended as an homage to the seasons. After much reworking, it has ended up showing the aftermath of original sin offering a new take on usual depictions of the perfection of Paradise.

"Time, times, and half a time" is a biblical reference, primarily from the books of Daniel and Revelation, that represents a period of three and a half years. This phrase is a symbolic representation of time, where "a time" equals one year, "times" equals two years, and "half a time" is half a year. This 3.5-year period is often associated with intense persecution, and is seen as a period of divine protection and ultimate deliverance.

In the Myth Er written by Plato, the Fates operate a spindle; a crucial mechanism for the order of the universe and the souls' journey through reincarnation. It concludes with souls choosing their next lives, emphasising personal accountability, and the importance of virtue and wisdom for a good future. This painting represents the Moirai, as they spin, measure, and cut the thread of life. They embody the predetermined and unavoidable nature of destiny, controlling the life and death of every mortal and God from their birth to their end.

Storms and tornados are my symbol for perpetual change and the chaos it brings. They are a recurring theme in my work, and this painting is based around retribution, the weighing up, and living out the consequences of one's actions.

I have conflated the universal myth of the Great Flood, with the myth of Hades and Persephone., thereby representing both the personal and universal experience of the archetype of transformation. The myth of the great flood is found across most cultures, featuring a deity sending a deluge to destroy humanity, with a few chosen survivors escaping in a vessel to repopulate the world. Persephone and Hades' relationship symbolizes renewal, mercy, and hope for a transformed existence, particularly through the Eleusinian Mysteries, where her cyclical return from the Underworld shows that death is not an end but a transition to another state of being.

The Adam and Eve narrative presents a tension between free will and fate, where their free choice to disobey God led to the concept of original sin. Eating the forbidden fruit was an exercise of free will, and brought spiritual death and sin upon humanity.

The myth of Icarus tells of a brilliant craftsman, Daedalus, who creates wings of feathers and wax for himself and his son Icarus, to escape King Minos's imprisonment on Crete. Daedalus warns Icarus not to fly too high, but Icarus soars too close to the sun, melting the wax and causing him to drown. in the sea below. This myth serves as a cautionary tale about hubris and defying the wisdom of elders.
